         Shady Day

"In the summer of '68, my life was good; no, it was great."

Shady Day was born in South Tacoma, WA in 1968. The band consisted of (Bottom L-R) Chad Shue; Guitar and Vocal, Ted Bayes; Guitar and Vocal, Jim Magnusson; Drums and Vocal, (Center) Mary Magnusson; Tambourine and Vocal, (Back L-R) Rick Pritchard; Bass and Vocal, John Snider; Drums, and Dan Gillespie; Keyboard and Vocal. Mary was replaced by Cheryl Hagan in 1969. The material was largley the music of the day along with a scattering of original tunes from Ted and Chad.

After a year or so of playing mostly private parties and the occasional gig at the Summit View Youth Center, the band split up when John, Jim, and Chad enlisted in the US Army (Dan wanted to join too but failed the physical).

In 1975 Chad, Jim, and Rick got back together briefly and played the tavern scene in Snohomish County but in 1976 Chad moved to Texas and stayed there for 10 years. In late 2010, all of the original members except Mary and John finally reunited and by the summer of 2011 were back to making music again.

Today, the band consists of Rick and Chad, along with new members Dale Murrow on drums and John Gipson on lead guitar. The music still includes many of the tunes from 1968 as well as many of the influences experienced by the guys over the years; not the least of which is a new and exciting addition of Gospel that allows the vocal harmonies that have always been the strength of the group to shine even brighter.

Over the past 3 years the band has stayed busy playing various venues from Chehalis to Olympia, Tacoma, Gig Harbor, and Port Orchard. They are always looking for new places and new faces with which to share the Shady Day experience.

On these pages you will find a bit of the history and, through some of the video and audio files, hopefully some of the joy that is the Shady Day Band.
